Strengthsfinder, Sparktype, and the Maven

It’s always good to know something about the person you’re going to spend time with. Especially slightly random things. So let’s start with assessment tests.

I like tests like the Gallup Strengthsfinder and Sparktype. I especially like them when the results sound like me. When they explain why I dive into research for fun and feel compelled to share it with people. All the time. Because look at this! Wow, I didn’t know that. Whoa. . . that’s a lot like . . .

You get the picture.

Strengthsfinder fans, here are my top 5: Input, Strategic, Ideation, Learner, and Futuristic. All sitting in the Strategic domain. According to the facilitator who administered my feedback, he had never seen this before. And he had worked for Gallup!

And Sparktypes. Isn’t that the best name? “Discover the work that makes you come alive.” Yes please. My Sparktype is Maven. “You are driven to learn, to discover, to ferret out information, wisdom, knowledge for no other purpose than the joy of learning and knowing something as fully and deeply as you can.” Who knew you could feel so heard by an assessment?

In that spirit of joy, here are some topics I’ll post about a lot. Because I love them. And I hope you will too.

  • Books. I inhale them 3 ways: paper, kindle, and audio.  This category will include descriptions of bookstore hauls. With photos.

  • Words in translation, typically Italian or German.  Today’s word is sfizioso!

  • Music. You’ll probably get the idea that I love Mozart. But just wait to hear who else I like!

  • Flowers, gardens, and being outdoors in the city

  • History, across time and geographies

  • People and stories that inspire me

  • Quotes. “Stories can conquer fear, you know. They can make the heart bigger.” Ben Okri

  • Shareables. This is my word for miscellaneous and it reminds me of lunchables, which makes me laugh.

As a random phrase generator told me a couple years ago, buckle up Gloriosa daisy!
